Perché ho smesso di leggere i giornali italiani

perché hanno smesso di pubblicarli. Uno pensa che la Repubblica, o il manifesto, pubblichino un quotidiano, ma invece poi scopre di sbagliarsi. Ecco a cosa mi riferisco -ma si, facciamoci del male, facciamo il solito confronto con un altro paese europeo: prendiamo il Guardian sui riot a Londra in questi giorni.

Tottenham riots: why we launched an online survey for those who were there

«Thanks to live reporting and tweeting from reporters and eyewitnesses on the ground, a clear picture of what happened, and its aftermath, is rapidly emerging. What will take longer to emerge, however, is any sense as to why these riots – predicted by virtually no one – took place. Theories aplenty are circulating social media, and soon will be followed by commentators in the paper setting out what the riots mean in the UK’s wider social context.

However, the only people who can really shed light on why the riots took place are those who rioted, their friends, families and neighbours. [..]

Reporters on the ground are doing what they can to ask as many participants as possible why they took place in either the protests or subsequent riots, rather than just asking what they saw.

To complement that, given that many protesters were said to be carrying smartphones and taking to social media, we are asking the same questions online. While this can only generate anecdotal information (and the plural of anecdote is not data), we’re hoping it will help inform and expand our reporting.

«E’ un sabato sera come tanti in Piazza Belvedere, e una cinquantina di ambulanti hanno messo in mostra la loro merce nei punti di maggior passaggio. Da qui l’arrivo di un “imponente” dispiegamento della polizia municipale (sei pattuglie e tre agenti in divisa), che ha dato il via ad un vero e proprio blitz, il cui esito è stato il sequestro della merce venduta dagli ambulanti.

Ma qui la novità è stata la reazione dei passanti, che hanno preso le difese dei venditori ambulanti, per la maggior parte giovani e giovanissimi di nazionalità senegalese, tanto da far retrocedere gli agenti presenti dall’operazione di sequestro per evitare possibili disordini.

Da qui la richiesta di una riflessione sull’accaduto da parte del Silp Cgil alle autorità cittadine: “Nel condannare fermamente quanto avvenuto sabato sera a Tirrenia, riteniamo che le SS.LL (Prefetto, Questore e Sindaco, ndr) debbano analizzare tale anomalo fenomeno di protesta popolare, così nuovo per la realtà pisana, che se ripetuto, potrebbe andare ad inficiare sia gli aspetti tecnico-operativi collegati al progetto che mira a contrastare il fenomeno dell’abusivismo commerciale, sia il rapporto Forze dell’Ordine-Cittadino, che la sicurezza del personale di polizia deputato a fare rispettare la legge”. »

Sulla tattica delle barricate e su cosa ne deriva

Tactically the barricades were both a defensive and offensive weapon. From the perspective of defense, barricades were highly effective in holding off the army, disempowering mounted troops and disrupting the government’s lines of communication and supply. But they also served an equally important offensive role because they gave the rebels the time and opportunity to explain their cause to the soldiers. This is why Russian communist Leon Trotsky would later write that barricades were primarily “a way of halting the movement of troops, thus placing them in contact with the people.” Protesters developed a strategy of fraternization that weakened the resolve of the opposing army, increasing defections. Therefore, once barricades were constructed, it was nearly impossible for the government to quell the rebellion through force.
